Waze – UX/UI Redesign (Concept)

Beyond a cleaner, more modern UI, this concept adds three core capabilities: Friends Tracking (one-tap navigate to opted-in contacts), Smart Place Search (hours, photos, distance, multi-modal ETAs), and an AI Co-Pilot that helps choose routes, supports voice commands, and builds scenic or interest-based itineraries (e.g., coastal drives or nature stops along the way).

Overview

This concept simplifies the path from opening the app to safe navigation by tightening hierarchy, reducing tap count, and improving glanceability while driving. It also introduces three differentiators:
1. Friends Tracking — see opted-in contacts on the map, view their distance/time from you, and start navigation to them with one tap.
2. Smart Place Search — type a known venue (club, stadium, mall) and instantly get hours, photos, distance, and multi-modal ETAs.
3. AI Co-Pilot — natural-language route planning, voice-first commands, and scenic/interest-based routing with suggested waypoints.

  • Reduce time‑to‑route by surfacing recent and predicted destinations on the home screen.

  • Increase tap target sizes and contrast for quick, one‑handed interactions.

  • Prioritize glanceable cues and voice controls to support safe driving.

  • Dark mode by default during navigation; refined alert hierarchy.

  • Voice-first flow that never competes with driving attention; glanceable confirmations only.

  • Privacy-by-design for Friends Tracking and AI suggestions: explicit opt-in, clear controls, and transparent data use.
     

Research (light)

Quick interviews and competitor scan informed three key insights:

 

1. Most sessions are repeat routes; smart shortcuts matter more than full search.

2. Alerts and reports must be noticeable but non‑intrusive.

3. Hands‑free and large tap areas matter most once driving starts.

Logo Redesign (Concept)

Exploring a refreshed mark that improves small‑size legibility and aligns with a cleaner, motion‑friendly UI system.
